Wassie One first got the taste for MCing/toasting in 1982 at Childers Street skate park in New Cross, South London. After following other Sound Systems such as Jah Shaka, Saxon, Scorcher and Sir Coxsone the inspiration was to build a Sound System.
This started with playing house parties, weddings, christenings which led to playing larger events.
Some of the highlights for Wassie One over the years have been headlining Brixton Town Hall with the likes of King Tubbys, Gladdy Wax, Jah Observer, Channel One & Axis Valve-A-Tron. Another major career high was playing Brixton Splash for 6 years.
Wassie One specialises in 60’s, 70’s & 80’s Ska, Rocksteady & Reggae and will only play vinyl in the traditional one turntable style.
Over the last couple of years, and with a growing reputation, Wassie and his box of records has headlined across Europe and as far a field as Mexico City with the great Roberto Delas Torres.
South London is still home with a monthly residency at The Hand In Hand bar in Brixton Hill, dances UK wide and a twice weekly radio show on Venture FM.
Over 40 years, Wassie & the Sound are still going strong.
